Wright Construction provided design-build services for the new City Garage and Public Works Offices. This new construction project is located adjacent to the Sebastian Municipal Airport. One section of the building is primarily offices and consists of classrooms, locker rooms, offices, break rooms, receptionist/lobby area, restrooms, maintenance storage areas, and mechanical/electrical rooms. The second section or “wing” of the building consists of open garage bays, an enclosed vehicle bay, and equipment maintenance area, the fleet maintenance supervisor’s office, additional offices, a sign shop, tire storage, welding room, vehicle shop, and equipment areas with lifts, and a cleanroom. Extensive infrastructure and site work were required with detention basins, parking lots, fueling stations, vehicle wash areas, roadways, and off-site utility construction. This building is a pre-engineered metal building with a standing seam roof and insulated wall panels for energy efficiency.
The structure is all hot-dipped galvanized for low long-term maintenance. In addition, the building was designed as a public works facility for heavy equipment including vehicle lifts. The structure was designed to include 20’ overhangs along each side of the warehouse so as to allow vehicles to pull up to the building and be undercover. The overall design incorporates CMU construction around the perimeter and is aesthetically pleasing as well. The back-of-house areas were secured from the public by automatic gates and card readers. Concrete was utilized primarily on the site due to the size and weight of the fleet vehicles. Asphalt was utilized for the employee and public parking areas. Finally, electric vehicle charging stations were incorporated into the project.
